Edgehog glass fully transmits all colors of light (from UV to NIR). Only about 0.1% of light is reflected. This creates a lot of useful effects!

For displays, removing the reflection increases the contrast of the image. And since the reflection is removed uniformly throughout the visible light, there is no color tinting! Applied to the screen of any portable electronic device, our technology helps save the battery charge because the device will not need high screen brightness to boost the image contrast.
The bio-inspired nanostructures on Edgehog glass eliminates the light reflection at the glass surface. In these nano-sized “moth-eye” patterns, an originally flat interface between air and the material is replaced with a gradient of material density consisting of nano-pyramids. Nature has used this to remove the reflection form the eye of the moth to hide them form the predictors. The abrupt change in the index of refraction from air to the glass is replaced with a gentle gradient index, and as a result all wavelengths of light are transmitted through the pattern and not reflected.
Edgehog glass, not only transmits all the light when shined perpendicular to the surface, but it also transmit all the light at all angles! This is not trough for the flat glass surface or any other anti-reflection technology. When light is shined at angles on the surface, a lot of it is reflected. Edgehog glass maintains its performance up to 60 degrees. Even at larger angles, it still outperforms all the other technologies!
For solar panels, this means that all the light that reaches to the surface at any angle will contribute in the energy generation. Since the sun is moving in the sky, our technology outperforms other technologies by far! At higher latitude that the sun shines at steep angles, Edgehog glass on a module increases the annual energy generation by more than 11.5%.
For displays, Edgehog nanostructured glass eliminate all glare, resulting in comfortable viewing under the brightest conditions at any angle.
Edgehog glass is superhydrophobic! It means the water droplets bounce back from the surface of the glass. This results in a self-cleaning surface because the water droplets can absorb dust on the surface and remove it while bouncing of the glass.
The surface is also Anti-Soiling! The video shows that the soil doesn’t stick to the glass. So any wind or water can remove it and it wont accumulated of the solar panel.
Inspiration once again comes from the bio-world: the superhydrophobic leaf of a lotus plant floats on the surface of water, and as waves wash over the lotus leaf, debris and contamination is continuously washed off.
Water droplets on the nano protrusions on the surface act much like a performance artist walking over a bed of needles. The surface tension of water keeps droplets disposed on top of the needles rather than sink into them, and the droplets easily roll off the surface.
